I read about this “Infertility breakthrough with first birth from lab-matured egg“. One of the recipients of the fertilized embryo was a woman with advanced ovarian disease and she ultimately gave birth to a baby girl. Other recipients were women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) - not a cancerous condition but causes infertility. This made me wonder about the lives of cancer patients - especially younger cancer patients - and the life choices that they make while they are dealing with cancer. I’m not in a position to answer this question from personal experience, I realize that cancer treatments are making incremental improvements, and that having children can be extremely important to cancer patients at a childbearing age. Maybe this is an “ethics” related topic: for patients who are at an advanced stage of cancer, is it “ethical” to have babies when they may not know how long they could be around to parent those babies?
